Currently viewing the category: "Chef Schools"

Lets face it: cooking is not an easy thing. But then, it is not that complicated either. With the right stuff and the right training, you can head off boasting like a chef that knows its craft.

Hence, whenever somebody has taken good cooking knowledge and skills, we would normally call them as chefs. They are, in reality, what the king is to his throne. This means that the chefs are considered to be the highest class of cook with utmost ability and proficiency.

All of these things are not easily achieved. Before they can be acclaimed as chefs, they have to undergo first a rigid and thorough chef training. There are lots of skills to be learned and lots of things to be known in a chef training. Probably, this is the reason why people have high regard on them because of all the trouble they went through.

The Qualifications

In most instances, you dont need to be a high school graduate just to get hold of the opportunity in attending chef training programs. Though, you might want to be a high school graduate, at the least, because what you know as a high school graduate can be very handy when attending the chef training already, especially if it involves something about mathematics and the skill on managing a business.

Basically, chef training are sponsored by hotels and restaurants. This is because in most case, restaurants and hotels would rather obtain chefs that had personally undergone with their chef training.

The Concept

When you start out as a short order cook or a fast food cook, do not think that you will never have the chance of advancing to the next level. All you have to do is to take vigorous and rigid chef training so as to acquire the needed skills on the advance level.

With chef training, students are trained in ‘apprenticeship program’ being offered by most professional schools, hotels, and other food and beverage businesses. One of which is the 3-year apprenticeship program managed by the local divisions of the American Culinary Federation.

Likewise, there are hotels and restaurants that offer chef training also. The best thing about it is that you are most likely hired by the same company after you have finished your chef training. Most restaurants and hotel management find these arrangements very feasible since they will no longer have to go to a tedious manner of posting for job applications, screenings, and hiring applicants.

Besides, you would also require your hired chefs to still undergo additional chef training so that they will fit to your standards. That would be a double cost of expenses for you.

The Skills

Generally, chef training are not just any ordinary cooking lessons that one may learn. This refers to the most advanced level of what every cook may achieve.

In chef training, you not only learn more techniques in cooking but you are already trained in the supervisory and managerial level. This is because you are expected to handle a group of cooks once you get hold of the edge in chef training. In fact, you are not only expected to acquire new skills after finishing chef training but you are also expected to manage your own restaurant or hotel as well.

The Endless Possibilities

Indeed, after finishing chef training, the endless possibility of earning a good living is at hand.

In reality, chefs are very in demand these days. With a growing trend in fast food businesses and restaurants, it is no doubt that you can have a proliferating career once you have finished attending chef training. You have the chance and the opportunity to get hired locally or internationally.

Employment growth in chefs are imminent, especially now that the whole populace is constantly growing, therefore, more people will need the chefs service.

So, for those who want to be a chef or simply those who knows how to cook and wants to know more ways on how to get a good job, it is best that you attend chef training. It doesn’t just gives you the proper knowledge on cooking and advanced cooking but also maximizes your potential in handling your very own cooking business.

If you are going to be a chef you need have an awesome kitchen to work in. So, go to somewhere like Home Depot to build your dream kitchen, and don’t forget to use Home Depot Coupons to get a discount on everything you buy.

Certainly, chef training is your ticket to endless possibilities of living a good life.

In uncertain economic times, there a few things that will always remain constant. One of the constants, without question, is a person’s need to eat. Surprisingly, even fine dining establishments do well in both inclement and prosperous times, rarely feeling the crunch of economic uncertainty. This affects not only their availability for patrons, but for employees as well. From wait staff to hosts, expediters to managers, fine dining establishments keep quite a few people gainfully employed. Lately, however, they are encountering a problem of a different nature, namely, finding and keeping a head chef.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, “Job openings for chefs, cooks, and food preparation workers are expected to be plentiful through 2014″. While positions in well known eateries will always be competitive and highly coveted, there are several options available for those with the culinary know how to put together a menu that can define an establishment. Those who have graduated from culinary training schools are quickly learning that there are more choices than ever when it comes to where they wish to hone their skills. In fact, it’s not at all uncommon for recent culinary school graduates to receive job offers from restaurants they have never heard of prior to graduation, some of which may be located overseas.

Because there are so few culinary training institutes around the globe, restaurant owners and managers often find that the easiest way to find the right personnel is by going straight to the source. Local, regional or national advertising may yield a qualified candidate, but with competition for head chefs at at all time high, soliciting soon to be graduates can be a wise strategy. Considering how few experienced chefs there are who are not currently holding a position, it’s no wonder that demand is eclipsing supply and forcing restaurateurs to snatch up chefs as they are receiving their diplomas.

In my opinion cooking light is going to be a trend in the future and make dishes that are both satisfying and healthy is going to be very important. Diet programs like nutrisystem (nutrisystem coupons) have made a name for themselves doing this.

For the immediate future, job openings should be plentiful for those with the proper training. If the world’s penchant for palate pleasing fair continues unabated as it has since the invention of fire, this is one trend that is always likely to continue.

Question: Can anyone fluent in french help translate this from english to french!?!?
I have to write an essay on fake letter to someone saying that I had a bad dream etc. It has to ALL be in the present tense so for example instead of saying, “I went to school” it HAS to be “I am going to school.” I am in my fifth year of taking french at my school, we are just learning how to use the present tense and I can’t figure out how to write a whole story using it. “Cher Kelsey,

“Chère Kelsey, Kelsey is a girl?? if yes = Chère if no=Cher

” = sorry, I don’t understand what you say.

Et je me suis endormi dans la classe! =Par la suite, je me suis endormis en classe.

Ensuite, le chef m’a appelé à mon bureau, il a dit que j’ai dû aller à la maison. = chef????? The director (directeur) or the teacher? (professeur).

Finalement, je me suis réveillé de mon rêve.= ” Heureusement, je me réveille : ce n’est qu’un rêve!

Question: Should we create “Luxury Public Schools” that could help offset taxpayer dollars?
Here’s how it works. School districts around the country will be given startup money to create Luxury Public Schools. It will work like private schools in that parents will be required to pay the amount to go to the luxury schools, and this extra money made in profits, will go to help pay the costs of regular public schools. They may even make a profit.

The Luxury Public Schools can have have manicured lawns, pristine buildings, and 5-star restaurant with an in-school chef, you know things of that nature. It can cost $ 20,000-$ 28,000 a year that all prospective students and parents must pay.

The money for this helps maintain the luxury public school, but it also means that there will be money left over can go to pay for regular public schools, and it’s a win-win situation for both. It’s a perfect way to get people with money to pay up the extra money that goes to help public schools, and that is money that would not have been attained otherwise.

Do you think we should create Luxury Public Schools?

Answer:

Answer by Ken
No. What you are describing already exists – they’re called private schools. They cost more money, but they are also funded partially in part by tax dollars like public schools. They don’t directly help pay for public schools, but because the parents who send their kids to private schools make more money, they in turn pay more in tax dollars which funds the public schools that their kids do not attend. The privatization of public schools will not benefit the community at large, only a small percentage.

Question: Do I have reason to be mad at my parents or do I just sound spoiled to you?
Please bear with my rant. Please. I really have no-one to talk to at the moment.

Yesterday was my orientation at the university I will be going to next year. Not the university of my choice, but what my parents forced me indirectly to go to. My entire extended family kept pushing me and pushing me and pushing me to go there. I did and at the orientation I saw everything I hated about this place. It’s all spoiled snobs. I went to a school like that, again, because of my parents from 12 to 15 and I woke up at 5:00 am (mind you, not easy for a 12 year old) and had to travel all over the city to get there. Why? Because my parents thought I had to go to the best fu-cking school in the country so that they could brag about me. They picked my instrument (the piano), which I temporarily grew to like, but now I hate because I don’t connect with it at all. It was automatically assumed that I’m going to university, so when I said I wanted to become a chef, they laughed. Not even an option.

The reasoning was that “Since your mom is having chemotherapy, you should stay close for now. Don’t upset her. Just say you’re gonna go to this school.” Now, I’m stuck in the same shithole I was stuck in when I was 12-15. The school is full of snobs that I do NOT connect with. I don’t want to go to a place where everyone is talking 24/7 about Mommy and Daddy’s new birthday present, a trip to fucking Paris. I had rather be with hippie, down to Earth people.

I’m TERRIFIED of going to this school. My mom pretends to give me a choice, but as soon as I told her I’ll be going there, she kept asking me eagerly if I cancelled my offer to the one I actually wanted to go to. My mom’s chemo is going to be over in a few months. Why the f-uck do I have to do four years at a school I absolutely hate because of her? Trust me, I LOVE my parents and appreciate GREATLY everything they did for me. It’s just that this is a life decision for me and it sounds like chemo is only an excuse they’re using to keep me here. I religiously took care of my mother during her treatment. It’s time I have some independence and freedom.

My mom is also HIGHLY homophobic and I’m gay. They treat me like a child or a guinnea pig. She thinks if she keeps pushing the idea of me having a girlfriend, it will happen and I haven’t even come out to her yet. She just has a feeling it might be true. I hate how they always try to manipulate instead of just telling me the truth.

Answer by Choudhury
First off no your not spoiled you just listen to your parents which is a good thing :)

Mm but consider going there if you have no other choice.. You can transfer out after a semester or a year very easily to the university of your choice so I mean your not spending a whole 4 years there.

Trust me 1 year goes by SO FAST you have no idea . It`’ll be a breeze

If you do end up going to the school take classes of your interest so your not wasting time. You will definitely find it to be a learning experience anyways !

and just be easy on your mom . shes probably going through a whole lot. Chemo`s a huge thing.

hope that helps and good luck !

Question: Help with School Fraud >.<;?
This is my horror story, I admit I made a vastly horrible mistake in attending this school. I applied there the student admission’s director told me ” We are a accredited culinary school.” it was my main concern, that whatever school I picked was accredited, well perhaps it was being from a small country town in Texas, I made the mistake of believing him. I was wrong, horribly horribly wrong.

During my time spent there I noticed strange thing’s happening. Students having accidents that were not reported, one student collapsed and hit his head , they called in someone from my class to drive him to the hospital, a girl in my meat fabrication class caught on fire ! Did they call 911 ? no they had the stockroom attendant drive her to the hospital. All so that they could report they were accident free, another girl had her car broken into not reported either, all for the sake of a clean incident report.

My former instructor told another chef in front of me that he had, had hepatitis C , this was the man responsible for the main butchering of meat for the school, event’s, and school restaurant. I was shocked no one said anything, at least warned people , a few months later he was found with complete organ failure and died days later. I told this to a attorney I knew he said most likely the man’s death record was changed to prevent the true cause of death from being known, alarming I thought.

The placement director gave out my personal information to another student , then turned around and talked about his file with me , she also told me that she would not back me nor would the school endorse me when I tried applying for a job at a 4 star restaurant , saying to me that the restaurant owner’s were on the school board. I talked to my business instructor and he was shocked that she told me that because it was indeed a lie, the school had no ties whatsoever with the restaurant I was looking to work at.

Frustrated, that is what I was and then I found out that Arizona Culinary Institute had lied to me and they were not accredited, I had tried to transfer over my credits their to a Le Cordon bleu school. Meanwhile Sallie Mae was having fun raising my school loan rates, as of now I owe 18,000.00 more on top of my initial school loan, trying to seek legal help has been hellish.

The co-founder of that school is the former gov, Fyfe Symington. Once every single consumer advocate and lawyer hears this they say, ” I’m sorry we just can’t help you.

I’m so confused as to what to do, I made a mistake and believed the wrong school and now I’m stuck , the worst part is they brought in my family, even my dad has been ruined by this.

Does anyone have any kind of tips or info as to what I can do to get out of this ? I don’t want to be forced spending years trying to pay off a loan from a school that lied and is guilty of fraud.

Answer:

Answer by fangtaiyang
The school’s accreditation and your student loans are two separate issues. The loan was not forced on you and once accepted, it becomes your responsibility. If you have had problems with the school itself, you mat have a cause for action against them, but that will require hiring, and paying an attorney to do the legal work. It is not particular;y difficult for a culinary school to become accredited.

Question: Wealth, travel, success-a trend?
Every day I go through high school I dream about being an adult who lives the wealthy life. What I mean is there are people who seem to just have a great life, people who live in the Hamptons, and travel as they please, and seem so relaxed. When they want they just go and visit Paris to attend cooking school, or they randomly throw expensive dinner parties. They own expensive cars and travel the world doing interesting things, or visiting other wealthy friends in Dubai. They just buy a segway if they want one. I think of people like Ina Garten from food network, for example; or Gordon Ramsay.

I feel like I want to achieve this state of relaxation, but I feel like it’s something you’re born with. I know many people want this life, and it seems hopeless.
I read some people’s biographies and it mentions things and a lot of the time it seems like rich people are just in a rich family or marry someone successful. A lot of people however, work extremely hard to make something of themselves on their own.
I want to become a chemical engineer, I live in Florida, so I want to move up north one day, I think there is a lot of oppurtunity there.
My question is:

People like this, do they do productive things in their spare time, do they take risks by going in debt? When they all of a sudden “live in Paris for a year” how do they afford it? How do they get so rich if they just have a normal job? Also importantly, do they always seems to live in New York or is it just me?

I know I’m just another kid who wants to live the wealthy lifestyle, but I want to shoot for it as best I can. I feel like I should start right now, but I am not even out of high school. Is there anything I can do at this time in my life to aid me in the future?

I am concerned because right now in my spare time I do stupid things like play on the computer or meaningless activities. I get very good grades, but I feel like when I grow up I’ll just become another generic engineer, and if I pursue cooking or a profession along those lines I won’t be using my academic prowess. Do even people who are rich and successful do unproductive hobbies and they just got lucky somehow?

I always hear people say “Oh, we have a summer house in the Hamptons.” or “Yeah, my family goes to Paris every summer.” or in a biography, “She left her life in ____ to go to France for culinary school.”

It seems like I will never have oppurtunities unless I take risks, but it seems like most people just go in debt instead. Ina Garten started as a random government worker and somehow had enough money to buy a house in the Hamptons, how do people do this?

I mean Bobby Flay failed high school but somehow a chef put him through culinary school, look at him now. Is there something people do to become successful or is a lot of it luck?

I never hear about famous engineers living in the hamptons, but I am an engineering type, does that mean I am bound for generic-ness? I want to be different, be known for something. My dad always says he is bored of his job and he wants a fun a hobby, I don’t want to end up like this.

Thanks for reading this, if you think I’m just a stupid kid you can tell me. I am wondering, are any of my observations correct? To be honest, I don’t think I will go anywhere just living in Florida in another plain old house.

P.S.-I am sure I am not alone, but just writing this has helped me feel better.

Answer:

Answer by yellowstonedogs
Jason, for every one of those people with a “House in the Hamptons” there are twenty five million who live in a one or two bedroom unit in a small town somewhere!

Yes, some of these people are just lucky, some work really hard and others inherit.
I can only suggest you give it the best you have, aim as high as you can and be content with what you reap.

Many of those people living in NY and holidaying in Paris are not all that happy – they too are on a treadmill.

Question: I think my grandmother is crazy?
I have wanted to ask other people’s opinions on this for quite some time and haven’t gotten around to doing it. Now, I want to ask the question. It’s getting a little serious and ridiculous.

My grandmother, in my opinion, is absolutely crazy. It’s so strange the way she acts and I’ve known she was crazy since I was a little kid. I’m a teenager now, and now I can’t stand her. She’s just so annoying.

1. She never cleans. Ever. She has NEVER cleaned. Ever. She has never cleaned her house when she was younger, she never cleans now and she has no idea to clean her house. Yet, she complains that there are roaches in her house and blames me if I spill water on a table that I’m bringing in the roaches. If you spill something and are going to clean it up, she’ll say you’re messing up her floor by spilling water onto it?

2. She stays on the computer all day. All day, everyday she is on the computer. She never gets off. She sits on the computer, reading people’s facebooks and myspaces. People she has never even MET, she is looking up pointless details in their life. Then, she proceeds to yell at the top of her lungs, “Guess who graduated from College?!?! UH.. UH… UH……… Mario’s sister’s friend from elementary school.” WE DON’T KNOW MARIO’S SISTER’S FRIEND FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. NEITHER DO YOU. WE DON’T EVEN KNOW MARIO!

3. She stutters. All the time. She can’t pronounce names like, Catherine Zeta Jones or pronounce words like Chef or Chevy.

4. She comes out of her room to start arguments. Since she never leaves the house, she just walks around staring at the floor or looking in the fridge to scream about the soda being missing. Or, she’ll search for my dog. She started screaming, “Where’s [dog's name]!? Where is [dog's name]!!!” When the dog was right behind her. Then, she went back to being calm and started praising the dog.

5. She yells at me for no reason. If I’m sitting doing something, she’ll just yell out, “YOUR MOTHER IS GOING TO DIE ALONE IF YOU DON’T LET HER GET MARRIED!!!!” for no apparent reason. Then, if I say, “What?” She’ll be like, “DON’T TALK BACK! DON’T DISRESPECT ME!!!!”

6. She yells at my Mom for cleaning.

And now I’m done.

Question: Hotmail / Windows Live users…your advice please?
I’ve had a Hotmail account for many years now. A few months ago I installed Windows Live Messenger, and ever since I’ve been bombarded on a daily basis with tons of junk mail/spam at my Hotmail acount…”Go to culinary school and become a chef”…”Movie Club, get 4 movies for a dollar”…”Wal-Mart Jobs”…”Student aid for school”…”Human resources training”…etc etc etc…

I’m 99% sure these emails are a direct result of Windows Live Messenger, as did not get them prior to installing WLM 3 months ago. I thought of removing Windows Live, but perhaps this wouldn’t make any difference as these spammers (Microsoft?) already have my email address. I’m curious why I never had this issue over the last 4 years as Hotmail user…but now with ‘Windows Live’ I do…any tips on what can be done to resolve this issue?

Thanks!
I have Yahoo Messenger, and Google Talk as well…and never experience this sort of spamming with those services. The very same day I installed Windows Live Messenger, the spamming in my Hotmail account began…
I wont even bother with that link Holly…seems a tad fishy…also your account is as fresh as a new borns bottom.
Thanks to everyone else :)

Answer:

Answer by Messykatt
I’m not so sure! I have one of the earliest hotmail accounts ever created – it’s over 11 years old! – and about 6 months ago, I started getting spammed to death on it. I don’t have or use Live Messenger, since I prefer Yahoo for that.

I agree the timing is a bit curious, but I almost wonder if something didn’t get activated from several years back. Like maybe a major spammer selling our addies to someone, and then the active ones being re-sold or something crazy like that.
