Question: Do chefs call each other “chey”, like they do on TV?
On cooking shows, such as Top Chef and Hell’s Kitchen, the contestants often refer to the other chefs as “chef”. Is this a common practice in restaurants? cooking schools? any setting?

Hahaha. Honestly, the majority the chefs spend cursing and yelling at each other. I’ve never heard them address each other by anything other then their names, some nicknames, and incredibly amounts of cursing. In a year in a restaurant, i’ve never heard of it. I don’t know about other places, they might do it. Several of our chefs are also pretty close, two brothers and some long time friends, so they may have to do with how they address each other. Most likely, it’s just a tv thing. Wish I could help…

Question: How do they aquire the customers for “Hell’s Kitchen”? And are those customers eating for free?
I have found Fox’s “Hell’s Kitchen” to be a guilty pleasure for Monday nights. And I am just curious about the customers of the restaraunt. Are these folks hand picked and invited? I have to know they aren’t paying for this mess. Are the patrons instructed about the atomsphere and set up of the show? Do they get paid for participating in Hell’s Kitchen? I’m curious as heck: How does this work?

Answer:

Answer by Buster Van Buren
They are Fox employees, friends and family. They eat for free.
